Holidays in Montepulciano, hospitality and relax in Tuscany

Montepulciano is in the middle of the tourist routes between Siren and Chiusi. It offers many possibilities for accommodation and food for fun for all the tourists.

Montepulciano For a holiday in one of the highest hills and evocative of Tuscany, we recommend the small town of Montepulciano is situated on a narrow ridge of tuff. The city is characterized by a long main street and a series of alleys that branch off to reach the ancient walls. This is one of the most beautiful cities of Tuscany, with many vantage points, unusual places and a large number of palaces and churches Renaissance.

Much of the income of the country is given by the wine industry, based on renowned vino nobile di Montepulciano, and his interest in tourism is growing from year to year with many tourists who choose Montepulciano as a destination for holidays in Tuscany. Together with Montepulciano are worthy of note, as a point of interest in southern Tuscany, the town of Pienza, Chiusi and Bagno Vignoni, easily reachable by car and well connected by means public.

Montepulciano is in the middle of the tourist routes between Siena and Chiusi, and is well served by buses with daily trips from Florence. The railway station is also on the Siena-Chiusi, but only local trains stop, then we must then take a bus for the remaining 10 km to the country. Regular buses connect the train with the most popular of the main line at Chiusi, not very far. The bus stop is the Porta al Prato (south) and the Port of Flour (north). This is the first stop, to get to the center, climb the stairs in front of the stop. Porta al Prato, bottom, is practically the bus.

If you decide to get to Montepulciano in the car, follow the road that runs around the city in the eastern circuit of the walls and look for a parking lot, take care not to park in the area surrounding Porta al Prato, where there is a risk seriously to take a fine. You can also get further up towards the fortress.

The city

Recommend to the tourist route running from Porta al Prato Porta and the meal, such as passing the course (via the Gracciano in the Corso, in via di Voltaia course and via the takeover in the course). The center button of the city is Piazza Grande, where the cathedral and a group of beautiful buildings. One other place worthy of note for the tourist is the Renaissance church of San Biagio, reachable by a pleasant walk in the direction of said minutes west of the country.

The course: from Porta al Prato Fortezza

Before beginning the ascent up to the fortress, tourists can visit the church of Sant'Agnese. Going into the first chapel on the right you can see the Madonna of Clogs, attributed to Simone Martini, while turning our gaze to the second altar on the left you can see a fresco of the fourteenth century Sienese depicting the Madonna del Latte, where the Virgin breast feeds the baby, characteristic of the icon painting of the Sienese and Tuscan.

After visiting the church, continue walking through the course: now you see the buildings built in typical Florentine style. In the first place you'll find, is the backbone of the Marzocco, built in stone with the heraldic lion of Florence (the Marzocco). This is a copy of 1856, the original lions is now in the museum. On the other side of the road other lion heads decorate the Palazzo Avignonesi, and our attention is on other beautiful buildings: the Palazzo Cocconi and building Bucelli.

Soon after you arrive at the beautiful church of St. Augustine, designed around 1427. Inside there is a Crucifixion in the third altar on the left wall, by Lorenzo di Credi and San Bernardino of John Paul on the Wall right. The highlight is a polychrome crucifix on the high altar attributed to Donatello. Fron of the church is a medieval tower, a rarity for Montepulciano, decorated on top by a Pulcinella which marks the hours sull'orologio of the city.
After 100 meters you arrive at the Renaissance Loggia in the market and a fork, then left to continue the course and to the right you will arrive in Piazza Grande. Begun. Just before leave the wall switch in front of the church of Jesus, remodeled in Baroque style like many other churches in Tuscany.

This is followed by the police beyond the walls in front of Santa Maria dei Servi, works well with the Gothic facade and baroque interior, where the faithful bow all'affresco fifteenth of Our Lady of the savory. The only other work worthy of attention is the Madonna and Child, attributed to a pupil of Duccio. Via del Poliziano then falls to the city to the old fortress, where at the end of the road to San Grande lies the cathedral and town hall.

Piazza Grande

Piazza Grande - Montepulciano Piazza Grande is the ideal place to house the dome, but the building that immediately come to my attention the town hall, Gothic thirteenth century, which Michelozzo added a tower and a bugnatura in imitation of the Palazzo Vecchio in Florence. Tourists can climb the tower to enjoy a panoramic view to Siena, 65 km north-west.

Two of the buildings on the square you have to Sangallo: Palazzo Nobili-Tarugi, one of many buildings scattered around the city also act as wine cellar, with tasting and selling wine noble.
